“Defining Moments”
*** Genesis 6:5-6 “Now the Lord observed the extent of the people's wickedness,
and he saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil. So
the Lord was sorry he had ever made them. It broke his heart.” [New Living
Translation]
*** Genesis 6:8-9 “But Noah found favor with the Lord. This is the history
of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless man living
on earth at the time. He consistently followed God's will and enjoyed a close
relationship with him.” [NLT]
*** Genesis 6:13 “So God said to Noah, "I have decided to destroy all
living creatures, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Yes,
I will wipe them all from the face of the earth!” [NLT]
• DEFINING MOMENT
OF COMMITMENT!
Run with the World OR Walk with God!
*** Genesis 6:9 “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people
of his time, and he walked with God.” [New International Version]
Rather than spending his life for TODAY, he would invest it for TOMORROW!
*** Luke 12:33 “Be generous. Give… Get yourselves
a bank that can't go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bankrobbers, safe
from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on.” [Message]
*** Genesis 6:22 “So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded
him.” [NLT]
*** Exodus 14:10-16 “As Pharaoh and his army approached, the people of
Israel could see them in the distance, marching toward them. The people began
to panic, and they cried out to the Lord for help. Then they turned against
Moses and complained, "Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness?
Weren't there enough graves for us in Egypt? Why did you make us leave? Didn't
we tell you to leave us alone while we were still in Egypt? Our Egyptian slavery
was far better than dying out here in the wilderness!" But Moses told
the people, "Don't be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the
Lord rescue you. The Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again.
The Lord himself will fight for you. You won't have to lift a finger in your
defense!" Then the Lord said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to
me? Tell the people to get moving! Use your shepherd's staff—hold it out over
the water, and a path will open up before you through the sea. Then all the
people of Israel will walk through on dry ground.” [NLT]
• DEFINING MOMENT OF FAITH!
The Tipping Point is FAITH!
Exodus 14:31 “When the Israelites saw the great power with which the Lord
had defeated the Egyptians, they stood in awe of the Lord; and they had faith
in the Lord….” [Today’s English Version]
9. One last DM…Matthew 14…CONTEXT:
o Sea of Galilee…boat trip…Jesus on Mountain…middle of the SEA/Storm/Night
o Walks to them… “It’s a ghost!” Looks like Jesus…
o Matthew 14:28-29a "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell
me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said” [NIV]
• DEFINING MOMENT OF OBEDIENCE!
o Matthew 14:29b “Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water
and came toward Jesus.” [NIV]
o I know he sank…only 2 to ever walk on the water…
o Matthew 14:31 “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.”You
of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" [NIV]
o Did Jesus say this to the
1 or to the 11?
