*** John 6:1-2 “After this, Jesus crossed over the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. [2] And a huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miracles as he healed the sick.” [NLT]
***John 6:3-5a “Then Jesus went up into the hills and sat down with his disciples around him. [4] (It was nearly time for the annual Passover celebration.) [5] Jesus soon saw a great crowd of people climbing the hill, looking for him.” [NLT]
*** John 6:5b-7 “Turning to Philip, he asked, "Philip, where can we buy bread to feed all these people?" [6] He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. [7] Philip replied, "It would take a small fortune to feed them!" [NLT]
***Mark 6:37 “They said to Him, "Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?" [New American Standard Version]
*** John 6:8-9 “Then Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. [9] "There's a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?" [NLT]
*** John 6:10-11 "Tell everyone to sit down," Jesus ordered. So all of them—the men alone numbered five thousand—sat down on the grassy slopes. [11] Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and passed them out to the people. After-ward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate until they were full.” [NLT]
*** John 6:12:-13 "Now gather the leftovers," Jesus told his disciples, "so that nothing is wasted." [13] There were only five barley loaves to start with, but twelve baskets were filled with the pieces of bread the people did not eat!” [NLT]
There are five people or groups in this story and all five are in this room today!
1. THERE ARE “PHILIP’S”!
*** John 6:5b-7 “Turning to Philip, he asked, "Philip, where can we buy bread to feed all these people?" [6] He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. [7] Philip replied, "It would take a small fortune to feed them!" [NLT]
*** Mark 6:37b “They said, "That would take eight months of a man's wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?" [NIV]
• Average income per family in Chandler: $71,000!
• Number of family units in CCC: 2,000 +
• A tithe amount or 10th according to the Bible: $7,100!
• If each family tithed, CCC’s annual income: $14,200,000!
• Right now CCC’s annual income: $4,200,000!
Philip’s consider it as IMPOSSIBLE because they WON’T
and don’t have FAITH!
*** Hebrews 11:6a “Without faith it is impossible to please God….” [NIV]
The world would call Philip: Reasonable!
2. THERE ARE “ANDREW’S”!
*** John 6:8-9 “Then Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. "There's
a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that
with this huge crowd?" [NLT]
MAN-MADE SOLUTIONS FOR GOD-SIZED PROBLEMS!
He did his very best…and then brought it to Jesus!
“No man has ever tested the resources of God until he tries what is humanly impossible.” -- F.B. Meyer
*** Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." [NLT]
3. THERE ARE THE “MULTITUDES”!
*** John 6:48 “I am the bread of life.” [NIV]
*** Romans 10:14 “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” [NLT]
4. THERE ARE “LITTLE BOYS” THAT TEACH ADULTS!
• The need was great!
• The request was from Jesus!
• The boy was willing to give it all away!
“Some of the world’s greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible.” -- Doug Larson
5. THERE IS JESUS!
“God, I’ll
pledge to you my very best and then ask that You “Super-Size”
it!”
