THE REAL SECRET TO RELATIONSHIPS!
(Pastor Matt Myers)
Philippians 4:2-3 (NIV)
2I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other
in the Lord. 3Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow,[a] help these women who
have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and
the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
Unity is God's PRIORITY FOR
HIS PEOPLE.
John 17:20 (NIV)
20"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will
believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father,
just as you are in me and I am in you.
John 13:34-35 (NIV)
34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,
so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my
disciples, if you love one another."
Ephesians 4:13 (NIV)
13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son
of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of
Christ.
Philippians 2:1-8 (NIV)
1If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort
from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being
one in spirit and purpose. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,
but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4Each of you should
look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
The real secret to relationships
is to TREAT OTHERS LIKE JESUS TREATS YOU.
• A key relational quality for Jesus was HUMILITY.
• Health and healing will require HUMILITY.
The strategy for applying Jesus' secret to relationships is to have...
1. A humble opinion of ourselves
Philippians 1:1a
1Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,
2. A humble approach to others
3. A humble obedience to God
Colossians 3:5-15 (NIV)
5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because
of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7You used to walk in these ways,
in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things
as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its
practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge
in the image of its Creator. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised
or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and
is in all.
12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves
with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with
each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body
you were called to peace. And be thankful.
