NIC AT NIGHT!

 

*** John 3:1-2a “Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night….” [New International Version]

 

·        Nic was a Pharisee!

 

·        Nic was a member of the Sanhedrin!

 

·        Nic was Israel’s Teacher!

 

*** John 3:10 “You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things?”  [NIV]

 

*** John 3:2b “…and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him." [NIV]

 

BY USING THIS TERM HE IS REFERRING TO JESUS

AS AN EQUAL!

 

·        Nic was Comfortable in his Religion!

 

*** Mark 12:24 “Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?” [NIV]

 

·        Nic was Satisfied with his Position!

 

·        Nic was Proud of his Knowledge!

 

*** Matthew 22:34-36 “Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

*** John 3:3 “In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." [NIV]

 

CHRIST AND CHRIST ALONE SAVES!

 

*** John 3:13-15 “No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven--the Son of Man. [14] Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, [15] that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” [NIV]

 

*** John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” [NIV]

 

*** John 19:38-40 “Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jews. With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away. [39] He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. [40] Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen.
