Chandler Christian Church Sermon Notes

June 5 & 6, 2004  "Kindness:  The Main Attraction"  Selected

The Attractiveness Of A Kind Heart

Eph 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another…

(New International Version)

I. God’s Character Of Kindness

Rom 2:3-4 3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? (NIV)

Luke 6:35b …he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. (NIV)

II. God’s Call To Kindness

Eph 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another… (NIV)

Col 3:12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (NIV)

1 Cor 11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. (Revised Standard Version)

The Plan…

Our kindness draws people to us

and then we point to Christ!

Eph 4:32-5:1 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. 5:1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children… (NIV)

III. God’s Course Of Action

1. Knowing the King of Kindness

Jer 9:23-24 23 This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. (NIV)

John 17:3 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (NIV)

When you get to know God, you get a lot more than just knowing kindness.

Praying for open doors.

Col 4:3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, (NIV)

Acting when called to action

James 2:18 Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. (NIV)

Prov 11:17 A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself. (NIV)
