March 20-21, 2004 CELEBRATE RECOVERY! Matthew 5:3-10 and Selected

HOPE FOR A HURTING HEART!

REVEALING YOUR FEELINGS IS THE KEY TO INNER HEALING!

** Isaiah 43:2-3 "When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God…your Savior." [New Living Translation]

*** Galatians 6:2 "Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ." [NLT]

HOW YOU CAN FIND HOPE FOR A HURTING HEART!

1. REALIZING THAT YOU ARE POWERLESS!

*** Matthew 5:3 "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!" [Today’s English Version]

ASKING FOR HELP ISN’T WEAKNESS, IT’S WISDOM!

*** 2 Cor. 12:10 "Since I know it is all for Christ's good, I am quite content with my weaknesses and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong." [NLT]

2. EARNESTLY TRUSTING IN GOD’S POWER TO HEAL!

*** Matthew 5:4 "Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them!" [TEV]

*** 2 Cor. 9:8 "And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others." [NLT]

3. CONSCIOUSLY SURRENDERING TOTALLY TO GOD!

*** Matthew 5:5 "Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised!" [TEV]

*** Romans 6:12-13 "Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to its lustful desires. Do not let any part of your body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning. Instead, give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life. And use your whole body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of God." [NLT]

4. OPENLY ADMITTING MY FAULTS TO GOD AND SELF!

** Matthew 5:8 "Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God!" [TEV]

*** Psalm 51:2-3 "Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my shameful deeds—they haunt me day and night." [NLT]

THE BIBLE WORD FOR THIS IS TO CONFESS!

*** 1 John 1:8-9 "If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done." [New Century Version]

5. VOLUNTARILY AGREEING TO GODLY CHANGES!

*** Matthew 5:6 "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully!" [TEV]

THE BIBLE WORD FOR THIS IS TO REPENT!

*** Acts 3:19 "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord…." [New International Version]

6. EVALUATING ALL RELATIONSHIP FOR FORGIVENESS!

*** Matthew 5:7 "Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!" [TEV]

*** Eph. 4:32 "Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you." [The Message]

*** Matthew 5:9 "Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!" [TEV]

*** Romans 12:18 "Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible." [NLT]

7. RESERVING DAILY TIME FOR GOD!

*** Psalm 119:11 "I have thought much about your words and stored them in my heart so that they would hold me back from sin." [LIVING BIBLE]

*** Acts 4:31 "After…prayer, the building where they were meeting shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And…boldness." [NLT]

GOD CAN PUT US TOGETHER AGAIN IF WE FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS!

8. YIELDING MY LIFE TO BE USED BY GOD!

*** Matthew 5:10 "Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!" [TEV]

*** 2 Cor. 1:3-4 "All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us." [MSG]

"So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end."

Hebrews 12:1-2 [TEV]
