PUNISHMENT (PENALTY FOR WRONG DOING)

DISCIPLINE (PROCESS OF CHANGING BEHAVIORS)

WE HELP OUR KIDS BE THEIR BEST BY:

1. APPLYING BIBLICAL DISCIPLINE!

A. BY AGREEING THAT DISCIPLINE IS NECESSARY!

*** Proverbs 29:15 “Correction and discipline are good for children.” [TEV]

*** Proverbs 23:13 “Don't hesitate to discipline children.” [Today’s English Version]

*** Proverbs 29:17 “Discipline your children; you'll be glad you did — they'll turn out delightful to live with.” [Message]

B. BY ACKNOWLEDGING THAT DISCIPLINE IS LOVING!

*** Proverbs 3:11-12 “My child, do not reject the Lord's discipline, and don't get angry when he corrects you. The Lord corrects those he loves, just as parents correct the child they delight in.” [New Century Version]

*** Proverbs 13:24 “If you refuse to discipline your children, it proves you don't love them; if you love your children….” [New Living Translation]

C. BY KNOWING DISCIPLINE SHOULD NEVER BE DELAYED!

*** Proverbs 13:24 “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently.” [New American Standard Bible]

D. BY RECOGNIZING DISCIPLINE SHOULD BE CONSISTENT!

E. BY UNDERSTANDING DISCIPLINE INCLUDES PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT!

*** Heb. 12:10-11 “Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” [NIV]

IF YOUR CHILD IS 1 TO 2 YEARS OLD:

IF YOUR CHILD IS 2 YEARS OLD OR OLDER:

*** Proverbs 13:24 “Whoever refuses to spank his son hates him, but whoever loves his son disciplines him from early on.” (God’s Word to the Nations)

*** Proverbs 22:15 “Foolishness is firmly attached to a child's heart. Spanking will remove it far from him.” (GW)

*** Proverbs 23:13-14 “Don't fail to punish children. If you spank them, they won't die. If you spank them, you will save them from death.” (NCV)

10 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SPANKING:

1. Never spank in anger!

2. Spanking should be used only in cases of willful defiance!

3. Always spank on the bottom!

4. Spank using a neutral object!

5. Spanking must be strong enough to be painful and soft enough to not injure!

6. Spankings should be preceded with an explanation!

7. Spanking must be reasonable and limited!

8. Spanking should be followed by an explanation and an expression of forgiveness, love and a prayer!

9. Before spanking remember that the desired outcome is correction!

10. If spankings are administered correctly they will be few in number!

WHEN THE CHILD NEARS THE TEEN YEARS:

IN COLLEGE YEARS:

He said, "The smell of my son is the good smell of the open fields that the Lord has blessed. May God always give you plenty of dew for healthy crops and good harvests of grain and wine. May many nations become your servants. May you be the master of your brothers. May all your mother's sons bow low before you. All who curse you are cursed, and all who bless you are blessed." [NLT]

THREE WAYS TO COVER YOUR CHILDREN WITH BLESSING!
