PARENT TO POTENTIAL!

& THE GLORY OF A MOTHER IS GODLY CHILDREN!

*** Proverbs 10:1 “A wise son makes his father happy, but a foolish son makes his mother sad.”  [New Century Version]

*** Acts 16:2 “The believers in Lystra and Iconium respected Timothy and said good things about him.”  [New Century Version]

*** 1 Cor. 4:17 “That's why I sent Timothy to you. I love him like a son, and he is a faithful servant of the Lord. Timothy will tell you what I do to follow Christ and how it agrees with what I always teach about Christ in every church.”  [Contemporary English Version]

*** Philip. 2:19-22 “I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon. I have no one else like Timothy, who truly cares for you. Other people are interested only in their own lives, not in the work of Jesus Christ. You know the kind of person Timothy is. You know he has served with me in telling the Good News, as a son serves his father.”  [NCV]

& WE CAN PARENT TO POTENTIAL:

1. BY HAVING CONVICTION IN TOUGH CIRCUMSTANCES!

*** Acts 16:1 “Paul and Silas went first to Derbe and then on to Lystra. There they met Timothy, a young disciple whose mother was a Jewish believer, but whose father was a Greek.”  [New Living Translation]

&  DYSFUNCTION CAN BE AN EXCUSE FOR FAILURE OF AN ENCOURAGMENT FOR SUCCESS!

*** John 16:33“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."  [NLT]

*** Romans 5:3-4 “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to endure. And endurance develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident expectation of salvation.”  [NLT]

HOW DO WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO COPE WITH CRISIS?

                        $LOOK IN!                                               $LOOK OUT!

                        $LOOK AROUND!                                 $LOOK BESIDE!

                        $LOOK BEHIND!                   $LOOK AHEAD!

2 BY PASSING ON A PERSONAL FAITH!

*** 2 Tim. 1:5 “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”  [NIV]

&   THIS FAITH IS MORE DEMONSTRATED THAN DEMANDED!

***Deut. 4:9 “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”

[New International Version]

& WALKING THE WALK AND TALKING THE TALK 24-7!

*** 2 Chron. 20:32 Jehoshaphat walked in the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.”  [NIV]

3 BY TEACHING THEM TRUTH!

*** 2 Tim. 3:14-16 “But you should continue following the teachings you learned. You know they are true, because you trust those who taught you. Since you were a child you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching how to live right.”  [NCV]

& WE LIVE IN A WORLD WITHOUT A MORAL COMPASS!

*** Isaiah 5:20 “How terrible it will be for people who call good things bad and bad things good, who think darkness is light and light is darkness, who think sour is sweet and sweet is sour.”  [NCV]

*** Proverbs 14:12 “There's a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell.”  [The Message]
